Nina Vermeulen is spoken word artist, but her texts are somewhere between poetry and prose. Her writing is feminist, and usually about subjects that won’t let her go. By turning emotions into words, she gives new meaning to situations that she can’t control. She won the Best Feminist Poetry award by Unwanted Words, and the first round of Poetry Slam Rotterdam. She also coordinates Poetry Circle 010. She hopes to give listeners a glimpse of her world with the emotions she describes.

Nina is part of the Poetry Circle Nowhere collective, and works on the Enter New Babylon project as a writer and spoken word artist. For Enter New Babylon she teams up with designer Emma Bourguignon.

Constant

Nina on Constant: ‘My interests for the work of Constant started when I didn’t have inspiration for a period of time. I had all the time to write, but seemed to have forgotten how or about what. Then, I thought about the freedom Constant describes in New Babylon, a world where you can always create. As long as I can remember, I have asked myself if writers can ever be happy. Do we need setbacks to keep writing? If everything goes well, what do you write about? And this is exactly why I think the work of Constant is so interesting. He creates a world where there is inspiration, because it is allowed to be there. Because everything is allowed, inspiration isn’t necessary to have. I think it is very interesting how Constant changes everything, questions everything. I can spend hours thinking about the subjects he uses, without drawing conclusions but only getting more questions, and with that, more inspiration.’
