Emma Bourguignon

Location

Utrecht (NL), Louvain-la-Neuve (BE)

Genre

Spatial, sensitive and engaged, that is where the work of Emma Bourguignon is at. As a true scenographer, her interests are wide and guided by my many curiosities. Her aim is to link space to themes such as collectivity, womanhood, the environment or the accessibility to Art. Sometimes interlinking each other in her design process or in the work itself, she likes to use a specific site as a starting point to dig out inspiring stories.

Emma is part of the Enter New Babylon project as a scenographer teaming up with spoken word artist and writer Nina Vermeulen.

With a background in engineering and architecture, she knows how to structure chaos into productive work. These stories that she finds through research or conversations are always a starting point to translate her interests into creating a space. Incredibly stimulated by working in groups, that is where her ideas come to life the most. The dialogues help her structure her thoughts and get more practical and precise. It is the first step of a path of making links between the engagement behind her work, the people she wants to work with and of course, the space. She makes work on present-day issues, in an optimistic and meaningful way.

Constant

Emma Bourguignon on Constant: ‘With his activist way of being a polyvalent artist, Constant gathered people around him his whole life. His work evolved, changes and progressed through his discoveries. Places, beings, materials, instruments, colours; they all contributed to his inspirational ever-changing art life. I feel close to his openness to what is around us and how it all led him to contribute to our society, trying to make our world a better place to exist in together.’
