Dennis Molema (1994) graduated in 2018 as MFA from the Frank Mohr Institute with his thesis “The Virtual Conflict of the City”. For him as an art teacher and activist socialist, the human scale and the sharing of knowledge – and therefore power – are central. He works in, among other things, virtual reality and (video) installation.

Dennis Molema is the designer of the Grote gele sector in VR for the Enter New Babylon project and is part of the artistic team.

Description

Grote gele sector in VR

Dennis develops his technical and artistic VR art practice, in which he researched innovative but also critical forms of virtual art. For Dennis the work of Constant lends itself extremely well for this. This is mainly due to the critical-utopian and authentically free, playful character of the New Babylon project. This is sometimes absent in current VR art projects, where spontaneous playful discovery is suppressed.

On Constant

Dennis has a personal fascination for Constant’s New Babylon project, and would like to contribute to the reputation of his work, also from a social and educational point of view. He sees the Enter New Babylon project as a way for current and future generations to become familiar with the (increasingly) relevant work of art. They now work together with writers and theatre-makers, among others, to shape life in virtual New Babylon. Dennis thinks that’s at the heart of Constant’s original work too: the future New Babylonians will keep reshaping utopia. With the Enter New Babylon project, they put themselves in their shoes and look further ahead.
