Design

A digital platform and a unique typeface

Theme

The aim of Constant 1 0 1 and the digital platform is to shed light on the connection between cultural heritage and contemporary makers, between history and current events. We pass Constant’s ideas on to the future generation; with new perspectives, new work, new partners, new audiences and perhaps new hope. The website would become the digital platform where the contemporary artist goes into dialogue with Constant and his ideas. The design would to reflect on Constant’s legacy as well as embrace the diversity of the perspectives of the contemporary artists. It would have to be bold as well as inclusive. If that’s the aim, who you’re gonna call?!*

The Design of Constant 1 0 1 is created in a collaboration between design studio Thonik and Our Polite Society. Specially for Constant 101, Our Polite Society created a unique typeface based on Constant’s work. Thonik applied this typeface to the design of the website and communication tools linking the diversity of Constant 1 0 1 to an inclusive and bold style. Combining playfulness and diversity with an artistic perspective.

Typeface

The graphic designers at Our Polite Society have used Constant’s works as a basis for creating a typeface called Constant Change. It includes six cuts, each containing the twenty-six letters of the alphabet. Moving playfully through the alphabet, the typographic designs draw on some 100 works from Constant’s collection. The publication makes use of the tools of typography in a contemporary approach to historical works of visual art, while revealing the sources that inform the designs.

Website

Thonik applied this typeface to the design of the website and communication tools linking the diversity of Constant 1 0 1 to an inclusive and bold style. It Combines playfulness and diversity with an artistic perspective.
