Kim David Bots

Location

Den Haag (NL)

Interested in fragmentary storytelling and the way in which stories build over time Kim David Bots combines painting, drawing, sculpture, writing, publications and music/audio to form ‘collections’; combinations of material that are either directly related or connected through a network of association. Bots’ work lingers on the border between witticism and serious text, caricature and sentimental gesture and is, among other things, inspired by the language of proverbs, jokes and aphorisms that oft present themselves as direct and easily understandable while simultaneously carrying within them a rich constellation of references and histories.

Constant and Kim

Bots’ interest in Constant lies with the constant (no pun intended) need for reexamining and change within his oeuvre, which creates the possibility of perpetually reading new notions into each separate work. The oeuvre is a space where ‘stupidity,’ naïveté, intellectualism and utopian ideas can both exist alongside each-other, as well as compete with one another. Moreover the ‘side-practice’ (love of dogs, musical instruments, collecting) of Constant seems almost as fascinating as his oeuvre.
