Genre
Jaya Pelupessy (1989) investigates the meaning of the image in photographs, installations and 16mm film. Through an analysis of technical reproduction processes, he questions the relationship between copy, original and final product in relation to process. He is interested in the increasing role of photography in our daily lives. We perceive the world more and more through the lens of the camera: we share moments and experiences through reproductions. It is in this way that we direct our own reality. In a combination of found material and his own, he uses the individual elements of these reproduction processes in an alternative way for the construction of his images.
In the publication Playing Constant: The Only Constant Is Change, a conversation led by Zippora Elders between Pelupessy and Trudy van der Horst, widow of Constant, will be published. Playing Constant is a publication by Jap Sam Books in collaboration with Zippora Elders and Fondation Constant, reflecting on the Constant 101 project, due spring 2025.
